The project
The hall's brief called for an instrument equally credible in solo Romantic and contemporary recital repertoire and orchestral accompaniment, which meant a large dynamic range from a genuinely soft string-celeste pairing up to a full-organ reed chorus that could hold its own against a full orchestra. Electro-pneumatic action let the console sit on a movable platform separate from the case, so it can be rolled to whatever position a conductor or soloist needs without running mechanical linkage across the stage. The pipework spans four expressive divisions plus an unenclosed Great and Pedal, voiced over several weeks on site to the hall's own measured reverberation time.
